A two-day Zonal Training on Women’s Inclusive Participation and Leadership in Local Governance was held on 17–18 June at BDSSS, Dharwad, bringing together 37 participants from seven partner organizations. The programme commenced with graceful inaugural ceremony by Most. Rev. Fr. Derik Fernandez, Bishop of Belagavi, who highlighted the indispensable role women play in bringing ethical, compassionate and transformative leadership to local governance.The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Wilfred D’Souza, who provided insights into the Panchayat Raj system and the importance of women’s leadership in local governance. Through interactive sessions and group discussions, participants shared their experiences and challenges while gaining a better understanding of governance processes and leadership opportunities.Participants expressed that the training was motivating and equipped them with the knowledge and confidence to train other women in their groups and actively participate in local governance, including contesting local elections and advocating for community issues.
