The MAANINI State Women Federation, Bangalore, in collaboration with the Samrudi Women Federation, Mangalore, organized the International Women’s Day celebration on 9 March 2026 at Town Hall Mangalore. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 700 women members from different Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and federations across Karnataka. The celebration began with an energetic rally by SHG and federation members within the Town Hall campus, where women carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the importance of women’s education, equality, and empowerment. The rally set a vibrant tone for the programme and reflected the unity and strength of grassroots women leaders.The programme was presided over by Mrs. Manjula John, President, MAANINI State Women Federation. The celebration was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore, who delivered the inaugural message and blessings, appreciating the role of women’s federations in promoting social change and community development. The programme was graced by chief guests Mr. Gopal Krishna Shetty, Advocate, Mangalore, Mrs. Najma Farooqi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, DK, Mangalore, Mrs. Akshatha K, Chief Accounts Officer, Maha Nagara Palike, Mangalore. Mrs. Shwetha, Child Development Project Officer, Women and Child Development Department, Govt. of Karnataka, and Mr. K Sanjeeva Gowda, President, Lions Club, Kadri Hills, Mangalore. who conveyed their greetings and highlighted the significance of women’s empowerment, leadership, and active participation in social and economic development.During the programme, women who rendered meritorious humanitarian services, women leaders and achievers were honoured in recognition of their contributions to the empowerment of women and community. Their contribution to uplift the marginalised and weaker sections of the society were appreciated by the dignitaries and participants. The celebration also featured cultural programmes presented by federation members from across the state, showcasing songs, dances, and performances that reflected women’s strength, unity, and cultural richness.The event served as an important platform to recognize the achievements of women’s federations, encourage solidarity among SHG members, and reaffirm the commitment towards strengthening women’s empowerment initiatives across the state. With active participation and vibrant cultural expressions, the celebration concluded on an inspiring note, motivating women to continue working collectively for equality, leadership, and sustainable development.
