On December 16, 2024, KROSS conducted a one-day orientation session at Matralli ODP, Mysore, focusing on the child protection ecosystem in Karnataka. The event, attended by parish priests, sisters, teachers, social workers, ODP staff, and panchayat members, provided a comprehensive overview of the state’s child protection framework. Topics covered included institutional and alternative care mechanisms, legal safeguards, and the challenges faced by children, such as trafficking, children in conflict with the law, and issues affecting orphaned and disabled children. Emphasis was placed on the deinstitutionalization movement, advocating for family-based care alternatives like foster and kinship care, and strengthening child protection systems across the state.
