On December 12, 2024, KROSS organized a one-day orientation meeting at BDDS, Ballari, for 19 participants from various government organizations, NGOs, CBOs, CSOs, and local self-governments, focused on the Child Protection Eco-system in Karnataka. The session provided an in-depth understanding of the state’s child protection framework, addressing key issues such as institutional and alternative care mechanisms, legal protections, and the socio-economic challenges children face. Participants were briefed on critical topics like child trafficking, children in conflict with the law, and the challenges faced by orphaned and disabled children. Special emphasis was placed on the deinstitutionalization movement, promoting family-based care alternatives like foster and kinship care. The meeting also explored the roles of various stakeholders and opportunities for strengthening child protection systems across Karnataka to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
